Hamster foods
A hamsters diet is not simple. Lots of people think hamsters are vegetarians, but they are not. Hamsters are omnivores and can eat grains, seeds, berries, insects and vegetables.
Hamsters hoard, which means that they hide their food away. So make sure you only fill up your hamsters bowl, slightly, every two days.
A hamsters diet should consist of a good seed mix, lab blocks/pellets and a variety of fruits and vegetables. You can also give your hamster cooked chicken (fresh) and boiled or scrambled egg as a treat.
A Hamster with diabetes should have a diet with less sugars, which means no fruit. You will have to pick out the corn and peas from the seed mix since they are very high in sugar. Millet spray is also good for all hamsters especially for dwarfs prone to diabetes, as it adds lots more variety to their diet since most of the variety has to be taken out due to having to having diabetes.
Plain dog biscuits can also be fed to hamsters. Just make sure it is plain!
The hamster foods I reccommend are; Harry/Hazel hamster, Carefresh complete menu and Cunipic. You will need to find a seedmix that has 6-7% fat, nothing less than 2-3% Calcium , protein should be no less than 16-22%.
Make sure that you give your hamster vegetables at least once a week! Cooked chicken and egg can be fed every fortnight (two weeks).
